Expert Witness in Nanoparticle and Colloid Science
Specializing in Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Zeta Potential (ELS)
Have a case involving particle size or zeta potential? Let’s talk.
About Dr. John F. Miller
With over 35 years of experience in colloid science and pharmaceutical development, Dr. John F. Miller combines deep technical expertise with courtroom-ready clarity in nanoparticle-related cases.
He founded Enlighten Scientific LLC in 2017 following a 24-year career at GlaxoSmithKline, where he served as the CMC lead for the ADVAIR® HFA inhaler, guiding its NDA submission and lifecycle management.
Dr. Miller holds a Ph.D. in colloid chemistry and is the inventor of Phase Analysis Light Scattering (PALS), a now-standard method for measuring zeta potential. His innovations extended particle analysis into challenging non-aqueous and viscous systems, and he developed custom analytical instruments and investigations to support product development and regulatory submissions.
His expertise spans nanoparticle formulation, inhaled drug delivery, and statistical data analysis, offering litigation teams precise, accessible insights grounded in scientific and industrial rigor.
Areas of Expertise

What You Can Expect
When you need a technical expert who can explain complex particle science clearly, I bring more than academic credentials. I’ve spent decades at the intersection of industry, research, and innovation, including inventing Phase Analysis Light Scattering (PALS), now widely used for measuring zeta potential.
I understand how to make complex data meaningful, not just to scientists, but to attorneys, juries, and regulatory bodies. I’m comfortable supporting litigation teams through consultation, technical writing, and deposition preparation.
Legal firms I have worked with
- Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP
- Perkins Coie LLP
- Williams & Connolly LLP.
What I bring to the table
- Clear and jargon-free communication
- Experience with DLS/ELS in regulated settings
- Deep familiarity with product development timelines
- Honest, grounded, and detail-focused
- Available for short-turnaround reviews
